We can all relate to the idea of “brain fog” or times when our brains do not seem to be working at full capacity. In many cases, we can provide a reason for our sluggish thinking such as not having our morning coffee yet, a bad night of sleep, a stressful work or personal situation, or just not eating enough that day. In order to increase our daily functioning, we need to ask, do these things actually decrease our brain functioning? In a groundbreaking study, Cambridge Brain Science (CBS Health) showed that our cognitive abilities are comprised of at least three basic intellectual domains: reasoning, short-term memory, and verbal ability. Previous research has shown that while brain functioning cannot necessarily be improved by “brain training,” cognitive performance can be improved by exercising regularly, maintaining appropriate sleep cycles and diet, and limiting stress. In other words, by measuring these three intellectual domains at any given time, we can obtain a snapshot of a person’s current cognitive abilities.

The CBS Health test battery has been validated by decades of scientific research, and are proven to measure the most important aspects of cognition. Performance is directly linked with the areas of your brain that are active when you’re at your sharpest. But more importantly, the tasks are fun, and only take 1.5 - 3 minutes each to complete. Now, not only will you feel better, but you can objectively track how your brain is responding to treatment.

Schwartz Psychology has partnered with Cambridge Brain Sciences, to use the CBS Health test battery as well as other objective measures to obtain a baseline of cognitive and psychological functioning during the intake process. The platform is also used to assess, monitor, and manage core areas of cognition to ensure that your treatment is on the right track.
